Featured placements are advertising

A channel shown as Featured either paid for that placement or was given it by us. Most are bought; we sometimes give one, and when we do it is recorded internally with the reason. Either way it says nothing about the channel beyond our normal review — a Featured slot is not a quality signal, and it is not a recommendation.
