Telegram Channel Boosts Explained: What They Unlock and How to Get Them

Boosts are Telegram's way for readers to support a channel they like. Telegram Premium subscribers can give boosts to channels, and every boost moves the channel towards its next level. Higher levels unlock features for the channel.

Telegram adjusts what each level unlocks over time, and how many boosts each level needs. The channel's boost page inside Telegram is the place to check the current list. This guide explains how boosts work in general, how to ask for them, and what they can and cannot do for you.

Who can boost

  • Telegram Premium subscribers get boosts they can assign to channels and groups.
  • Boosts are given for a period of time and can be moved to another channel later.
  • Channels can also receive boosts through giveaways. A channel that runs a Premium giveaway gets boosts from the winners.

Free users cannot boost, so boosts mostly come from your most engaged, paying readers. The number of boosts a Premium user has, and how long a boost lasts, are set by Telegram. Check the boost screen in the app for the current rules.

How a boost works, step by step

  1. A reader with Premium opens your channel's boost link, or the boost option in the channel's profile.
  2. Telegram asks them to confirm they want to boost your channel.
  3. If they have already used their boosts elsewhere, Telegram offers to move one from another channel.
  4. The boost is added to your channel's total, and your progress towards the next level updates.
  5. A boost does not last for ever. It ends, for example, when the reader's Premium subscription ends or when they move the boost to another channel.

Because boosts can end and can be moved, your level can go down as well as up. A channel needs a steady flow of support, not one push.

What boosts unlock

As a channel gains boosts and moves up levels, it can unlock features such as:

  • posting stories from the channel;
  • custom colours for the channel name and link previews, and a custom background;
  • custom emoji as the channel's emoji status and in reactions;
  • other customisation for the channel's look.

Each feature requires a minimum level. The channel's boost screen shows which level you are at, how far you are from the next one, and what it unlocks. We do not list exact levels here because Telegram changes them.

Why boosts matter for growth

  • Stories put your channel in front of subscribers in a second place, at the top of their chat list.
  • A distinctive look makes your posts recognisable when they are forwarded. Colours and emoji help a reader spot your channel in a busy feed.
  • Boosters are your core fans. Who boosts tells you who your most loyal readers are.

Boosts do not bring new subscribers on their own. They make your channel more visible and recognisable to people who already know it. Growth still comes from good posts and from being found.

Boosts vs subscribers

It is easy to mix the two up. They measure different things.

  • Subscribers are everyone who joined. Anyone can subscribe for free, in one tap.
  • Boosts come only from Premium users, or from giveaway winners. Each one is a small, deliberate act of support.
  • Subscribers decide your potential reach. Boosts decide which features your channel can use.
  • Subscribers usually stay until they leave. Boosts can end, for example when a booster's Premium runs out or the boost is moved elsewhere.

A small channel with very loyal readers can reach a higher level than a larger channel whose readers do not care much. So boosts say something about loyalty. They are not a size ranking.

How to get boosts

  • Ask clearly, now and then. Share your channel's boost link in a post and say what the next level unlocks for readers. Do not ask every day.
  • Run a giveaway. Telegram's own giveaways reward subscribers and bring boosts at the same time.
  • Thank boosters. Telegram shows boosters to admins. A public thank-you encourages others.
  • Show what you did with the last level. If you unlocked stories, use them. Readers are more willing to boost when they see the result.
  • Pin the request for a short time. Pin your boost post for a few days, then unpin it so it does not become wallpaper.

Avoid services that sell boosts. Like bought subscribers, they add numbers without real readers, and they can break Telegram's terms.

How to write a boost request post

A good boost request is short, honest and specific. It says what boosts are, who can give them, and what readers get. Here is a sample you can adapt. The details in brackets are placeholders for you to fill in from your own boost screen.

Sample post:

Hi everyone. Our channel can now be boosted.

If you have Telegram Premium, you can give us a boost with the link below. It takes one tap and costs nothing extra.

With a few more boosts we unlock [the feature shown on your boost screen, for example stories]. We would use it for [what you plan, for example short behind-the-scenes updates].

No Premium? No problem. Reading, reacting and sharing posts with friends helps just as much.

Thank you to everyone who has boosted already.

[Your boost link]

A few notes on why it works:

  • It names the reward for readers, not just for you.
  • It gives non-Premium readers something to do, so nobody feels left out.
  • It thanks people who already helped.
  • It does not invent urgency or promise anything you cannot deliver.

Running a giveaway for boosts

A Premium giveaway is the one way to gain boosts that also gives something back to readers. You pay for Premium subscriptions, Telegram picks winners among your subscribers, and the winners' boosts go to your channel.

  1. Open the boost screen in your channel and look for the giveaway option. Telegram shows the current choices and prices there.
  2. Choose who can win. You can usually limit it to all subscribers or only new ones. Including existing readers rewards the people who were already there.
  3. Set an end date that gives readers time to see the post, for example a few days.
  4. Announce it clearly. Say what readers can win, when it ends and that Telegram picks the winners.
  5. Thank the winners publicly once the giveaway ends, if they are happy to be named.

Be careful with giveaways that only reward new subscribers. They can attract people who join to win and leave afterwards. Watch your views after the giveaway, not just your subscriber count.

After you reach a new level

  • Turn the feature on straight away. Set the colours, add the emoji, post the first story.
  • Tell readers. A short post saying "thanks to your boosts we can now do this" closes the loop.
  • Keep an eye on expiry. Your boost screen shows your current total. If it starts to drop, a gentle reminder a few weeks later is fair.

Common mistakes

  • Asking too often. Daily boost requests annoy readers and can cost you subscribers.
  • Asking without a reason. "Please boost" gives people nothing to aim for. Say what the next level unlocks.
  • Forgetting that boosts can end. A level reached once can be lost. Remind readers occasionally, months apart.
  • Unlocking stories and never posting any. Boosters gave you a feature. Use it, or they will not boost again.
  • Buying boosts. Bought boosts bring no readers and can put the channel at risk with Telegram.
  • Treating boosts as a growth plan. Boosts help with visibility. They do not replace good content and promotion.

FAQ

What is a boost on Telegram?

A boost is a vote of support that a Telegram Premium user gives to a channel or group. Boosts raise the channel's level, and higher levels unlock features.

Can free users boost a Telegram channel?

No. Boosting requires Telegram Premium. A channel can also gain boosts by running a Premium giveaway, because the winners' boosts go to that channel.

How many boosts does a channel need to post stories?

Telegram sets the requirement and has changed it over time. Open your channel's boost screen in Telegram to see the current level needed for stories.

Do boosts expire?

They can end. A boost depends on the booster keeping Telegram Premium, and the booster can move it to another channel. Telegram sets the exact rules and shows them on the boost screen.

Can I see who boosted my channel?

Admins can see a list of boosters in the channel's boost section. Exactly where it appears may change between app versions, so look in the channel's settings.

Can I move my boost to another channel?

Yes. Telegram lets a Premium user reassign a boost to a different channel. Some timing limits may apply, which Telegram shows when you try.

Do boosts help my channel appear in search?

Boosts are not a search ranking. They unlock features like stories and custom colours, which can make your channel more visible to people who already follow or see it.

Summary

Boosts come from Premium readers, raise your channel's level and unlock features like stories, colours and custom emoji. They can end, so they reflect ongoing loyalty, not size. Ask for them honestly and not too often, use giveaways, use what you unlock, and treat boosters as your core audience.
