How to Promote a Telegram Channel on Instagram, YouTube and X

Practical ways to bring followers from Instagram, YouTube and X to your Telegram channel: where to put the link, what to post and how to track results.

GrowthHow to Promote a Telegram Channel on Instagram, YouTube and X

To promote a Telegram channel on Instagram, YouTube and X, put your t.me link where each platform allows links, then give people a concrete reason to join that they cannot get on that platform. Mention it regularly in your content, not just once. Track each platform with its own invite link so you know what works.

This guide covers what to do on each platform, how to write the pitch, and the mistakes that waste effort.

Before you promote: give people a reason

Followers on another platform already get your content there. Why should they also join Telegram? You need a clear answer before you promote anywhere.

Good reasons include:

  • Faster updates. News or alerts that reach Telegram first.
  • Content that does not fit elsewhere. Longer write-ups, files, links or behind-the-scenes posts.
  • A calmer feed. Posts arrive in order, without an algorithm deciding what people see.
  • Direct contact. A linked discussion group, polls or Q&A sessions.

Write your reason as one sentence, such as "Get the full recipe card and shopping list on my Telegram channel." You will reuse it everywhere.

Also make sure the channel is ready. It should have a clear name, a good description and several strong posts. See how to write a Telegram channel description.

Use a separate invite link per platform

Telegram lets channel admins create extra invite links and give them names. Create one for each platform, for example "Instagram", "YouTube" and "X". You can then see in the channel's invite link settings how many people joined through each.

For a public channel, your main t.me link still works everywhere. The extra named links simply tell you where people came from. Our Telegram invite links guide explains the details.

Instagram

Instagram limits where clickable links can appear, and its features change often. Check the current options in the app.

Where to put the link

  • Your profile. Add the Telegram link to your bio or links section.
  • Stories. Instagram has offered link stickers in stories. Use one to point directly to your channel.
  • Captions. Links in post captions are usually not clickable, so write "link in bio" and keep the bio link current.

What to post

  1. Show a preview. Share a screenshot or short clip of a recent Telegram post, with the reason to join.
  2. Tease extra content. "The full checklist is on my Telegram channel."
  3. Mention it in reels or videos with a spoken call to action.
  4. Repeat it occasionally. New followers arrive all the time and missed your last mention.

YouTube

YouTube viewers often watch long content, which gives you more room to explain the channel.

Where to put the link

  • Video descriptions. Put the link near the top, where it shows before "more".
  • Your channel's links section. Add it alongside your other profiles.
  • Pinned comments. Pin a short comment with the link under each new video.
  • Community or post features, if available on your channel.

What to say

  1. Mention it in the video at a natural point, not only in the first seconds.
  2. Tie it to the video. "I've posted the code from this video in my Telegram channel."
  3. Use Telegram for updates like "new video is out" plus extras the video did not include.
  4. Keep it short. A sentence or two is enough.

Check YouTube's current rules on links in descriptions and comments before you rely on a format.

X (formerly Twitter)

X is fast and conversational, and links can be posted directly.

Where to put the link

  • Your profile. Add the link in the website field or bio.
  • A pinned post that explains the channel and links to it.
  • Replies and threads, when the link genuinely answers something.

What to post

  1. Share useful snippets and add "more on my Telegram channel" with the link.
  2. Post a thread and end with the link for readers who want more.
  3. Repost highlights from your Telegram channel as text or screenshots.
  4. Avoid posting only links. A feed of nothing but "join my channel" gets ignored.

Some platforms may show links less often than plain posts. If you notice this, try putting the link in a reply or your profile instead. Platform behaviour changes, so watch your own results.

Other places worth adding your link

  • Your website or blog, in the footer or at the end of articles.
  • Your newsletter.
  • Your email signature.
  • Other messaging communities you already run.
  • Directories. You can submit your channel to TGDirectory for free. Each listing is reviewed by a person before it appears.

Turn new arrivals into readers

Getting people to tap the link is half the job. The other half is keeping them.

  • Pin a welcome post that tells newcomers what to expect.
  • Deliver on your promise. If you said "full recipes", post them.
  • Post consistently. See how often a Telegram channel should post.
  • Ask what they want. A quick poll helps new readers feel involved.

Measure and adjust

After a few weeks, compare the platforms.

  1. Check joins per named invite link.
  2. Check whether views on your posts rose as well, not only subscribers.
  3. Note which kinds of promotion brought people: bio links, stories, videos or threads.
  4. Put more effort into what works, and change what does not.

Our guide on Telegram channel statistics explains which numbers to watch.

Common mistakes

  • No reason to join. "Follow me on Telegram too" gives people nothing new.
  • Mentioning the channel once and never again.
  • Posting only links instead of useful content.
  • Using one link everywhere, so you cannot tell which platform works.
  • Sending people to an empty channel with few posts.
  • Copying the same content everywhere, so Telegram feels like a duplicate.
  • Breaking platform rules on links or promotion, which can limit your account.

FAQ

Which platform brings the most Telegram subscribers?

There is no general answer. It depends on where your audience already follows you and how you promote. Use a separate invite link for each platform and compare your own results.

Can I put my Telegram link in Instagram posts?

Links in normal captions are usually not clickable. Use your profile link and, where available, link stickers in stories. Check the current options inside Instagram.

Should I post the same content on Telegram and social media?

Some overlap is fine, but give Telegram something extra. If everything is identical, followers have little reason to join a second place.

How often should I mention my channel?

Often enough that new followers see it, but not so often that it crowds out your normal content. A pinned post plus occasional mentions tied to specific content works for many creators.

Is it worth paying to promote my channel on these platforms?

It can be, but test small first and measure who stays. For paid options inside Telegram, see the Telegram Ads platform explained.

Summary

Give followers a clear reason to join, then place your link where each platform allows: profiles, stories and descriptions. Mention the channel regularly, tied to specific content. Use named invite links per platform to measure results. Welcome new arrivals with a pinned post and steady, useful posts. For more ideas, read how to promote a Telegram channel.
