Who qualifies for Telegram's channel ad revenue sharing, how earnings are worked out, where to see them, how payouts in TON through Fragment work, and fixes when nothing shows.
Telegram shares part of the revenue from the official sponsored messages it shows in public channels with the owners of those channels. When Telegram launched the programme, it said owners of public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers can receive half of the revenue from ads displayed in their channels, paid in Toncoin (TON) and withdrawn through Fragment. How much you earn depends on how many ads are actually shown in your channel, which depends on your views, your audience and advertiser demand.
This guide covers the requirements, how earnings are calculated, where to see them, how to withdraw, what affects the amount, and what to do when the monetization section is missing or empty. Telegram adjusts these rules over time, so confirm the current conditions in your channel's statistics and in Telegram's own help and terms pages.
Before looking at revenue, it helps to know what the ads are.
Telegram Ads are short sponsored messages that appear in public channels, below the channel's posts. They are bought by advertisers through Telegram's own ad platform, not through the channel owner. The owner does not choose which ads appear, and the advertiser does not choose individual small channels in the same way a direct ad deal would. Telegram's system shows ads based on targeting settings the advertisers choose, such as channel topics, languages or specific channels, and on what is available.
Telegram has said these ads are based on the channel's topic rather than on readers' personal data. Advertisers pay for impressions, which means the number of times their ad is shown. The Telegram Ads platform explained describes the platform from the advertiser's side.
The revenue that owners share in comes from these sponsored messages only. Money from ad posts you sell directly, from Stars purchases, or from paid subscriptions is separate. See how to make money on Telegram for the full range of options.
These are the conditions that decide whether your channel can earn from Telegram Ads. Check each in your app, since Telegram can change them.
Ads appear in public channels, the ones with a username anyone can find. Private channels, reachable only through invite links, are not part of the ad programme. If your channel is private and you want to earn ad revenue, it would need to become public. Public vs private Telegram channels explains what changes when you switch.
At launch, Telegram set the threshold at 1,000 subscribers. Channels below it do not get ads shown and so earn nothing from the programme. Check the monetization section of your statistics for the current condition.
Subscriber count alone is not enough to earn much, though. Revenue follows ad impressions, and impressions follow views. A channel with many inactive or fake subscribers may qualify but earn little. Why bought Telegram subscribers hurt explains why.
Your channel must follow Telegram's terms of service and its ad policies. Channels with content that breaks those rules can lose access to rewards, and Telegram can withhold or cancel earnings tied to violations. Advertisers also avoid certain topics, so even an eligible channel in a sensitive niche may see fewer ads.
The ad programme and payouts are not available everywhere in the same way. Whether ads appear in your channel, and how rewards are paid, can depend on where the channel's audience is, local laws, and Telegram's own decisions. If your channel meets the subscriber threshold but shows no monetization section, availability may be the reason.
To withdraw, the channel's owner needs:
Telegram sets a minimum amount for withdrawals, and the withdrawal screen will tell you if your balance is below it.
If your channel is approaching the threshold, or has just crossed it, run through this list so nothing blocks you later.
Some owners run a private channel with a large audience and consider going public just to earn ad revenue. Think it through first.
If you go ahead, announce the change to subscribers in advance, review old posts for anything you would not want public, and then switch the channel type in its settings. If the channel is meant to be paid or private, it may earn more through subscriptions than through ads.
If you see no statistics at all, your channel may be below the size where Telegram offers them. Telegram channel statistics explained covers what each section shows.
Telegram's announced model is a share of the revenue from ads shown in your channel. In plain terms:
Telegram does not publish a fixed rate per view for channel owners, because the price advertisers pay varies.
Telegram Premium subscribers do not see sponsored messages. Their views of your posts still count as views, but they produce no ad impressions and therefore no ad revenue. A channel whose audience includes many Premium users will earn less from ads than its view count suggests. That is not a fault in your channel; it is how the system is designed. Telegram Premium vs free lists what else Premium changes.
This uses invented numbers to show how the parts fit together, not real rates. Suppose advertisers paid for 100,000 ad impressions in a channel during a month, at an average price that adds up to 40 TON of ad spend. With a half share, the owner's reward would be 20 TON. If, the next month, views stay the same but fewer advertisers target the channel's language, the channel might get only 60,000 impressions and a smaller reward, even though the audience did not change.
The takeaway: you cannot predict earnings from subscriber count. Your monetization section shows what was actually earned; use it rather than any estimate.
The monetization section in your channel statistics is the single source of truth. It typically shows:
The exact layout changes between app versions, and some screens appear first on mobile. If you cannot find something on Telegram Desktop, look in the iPhone or Android app.
Telegram first paid ad rewards in TON. It has since added Telegram Stars across many features, including ways to pay for ads, and the monetization section can show Stars-related balances depending on what your channel earns and where. Look at what your own monetization screen shows rather than assuming one or the other. For Stars withdrawals specifically, see how to withdraw Telegram Stars.
Choose the receiving wallet carefully: a self-custody wallet whose recovery phrase you hold, or a custodial service you trust and whose rules you know. Telegram Wallet explained and Tonkeeper vs Telegram Wallet help with that choice.
When Telegram launched revenue sharing, it said owners can also use rewards to pay for Telegram Ads to promote their channel, buy collectible usernames on Fragment, or fund Premium giveaways. Reinvesting avoids converting TON back and forth if you would spend the money on these things anyway. See Telegram usernames on Fragment and how to run a Telegram giveaway for what those options involve.
To get money into a bank account, you sell TON through a service that supports it in your country. Fees, limits and verification requirements vary. Send a small test amount first, and keep records. This is general information, not financial advice; TON's price can move sharply.
Some owners do not want sponsored messages in their channels. Telegram has linked the option to switch off ads in a channel to channel boosts: once a channel reaches a high enough boost level, its admins can turn sponsored messages off. Check the boost levels screen in your channel to see what level unlocks it now. Telegram channel boosts explained covers how boosts work.
Turning ads off also means giving up that ad revenue. For some channels the cleaner reading experience is worth more; for others the revenue matters. There is no right answer.
Telegram's ad revenue sharing is passive: you do nothing beyond running your channel. Selling ad posts directly is active: you find advertisers, agree prices and publish their posts. Many owners do both.
Telegram Ads revenue:
Direct ad posts:
How to price Telegram ad posts and creating a media kit help with the direct route. Remember that direct ad posts in many countries need to be disclosed as advertising; see sponsored post disclosure.
Since revenue follows real impressions, the only lasting way to earn more is to grow real readership.
How to grow a Telegram channel covers growth strategies in depth.
The monetization charts show what you earned, but the raw number hides why. One simple calculation makes them far more useful: your own effective revenue per thousand views.
As an example with invented numbers: a reward of 12 TON over a month with 300,000 views gives 12 divided by 300,000, times 1,000, which is 0.04 TON per thousand views.
Track this figure month by month. If it stays stable while total revenue rises, your growth in views is driving the increase. If it falls while views are steady, advertiser demand or the share of readers who see ads has changed. It also tells you which months tend to be strong for your audience, which helps you plan. Combine it with the weekly routine in what to track every week on a Telegram channel.
Ad revenue can change without anything changing in your channel: advertisers come and go, the TON price moves, Telegram adjusts its rules. Plan with that in mind.
A sponsored message appears below the posts, marked as sponsored, and readers can usually find out more about why it is shown or report an ad they think breaks the rules. It is visually separate from your own posts.
Even so, readers sometimes assume the channel owner chose the ad. That matters when an ad promotes something your audience dislikes, or a competitor of a product you recommend. A few ways to handle it:
Keep your own direct ad posts clearly separate from Telegram's sponsored messages, so readers can tell which ones you chose and stand behind.
How to recognise it: your statistics open, but there is no monetization tab or section.
Fix:
If it still does not appear: the programme may not be available for your channel because of region, content or other conditions Telegram applies. Check Telegram's help pages or contact support from the app.
How to recognise it: the monetization section shows little or nothing despite meeting the requirements.
Likely causes and fixes:
How to recognise it: the revenue chart falls while your channel seems unchanged.
Check:
See the troubleshooting in how to withdraw Telegram Stars; the Fragment and wallet issues are the same: password missing, wallet not connecting, amount below the minimum, or looking at the wrong wallet afterwards.
If Telegram restricts your channel for breaking its rules, earnings may be frozen or withheld. Read any notice carefully and use official appeal options where offered. Telegram channel banned explains restrictions and appeals.
These are illustrative scenarios, not real channel data.
A news channel in a widely advertised market. It has a large, active readership and posts several times a day. Its monetization section shows steady revenue. The owner withdraws monthly and records each withdrawal for taxes. He also sells a limited number of direct ad posts each week at a higher price per post.
A hobby channel in a less advertised language. It meets the subscriber threshold, but its revenue is small because few advertisers target its language. The owner decides the ad revenue is a bonus rather than income and focuses on paid media posts for Stars, which her loyal readers buy.
A channel that grew through giveaways. It qualifies by subscriber count, but many subscribers joined for prizes and rarely read. Views, and therefore ad revenue, are low. The owner stops running giveaways that require joining and concentrates on content that keeps readers.
Telegram credits the reward to the channel, and the owner withdraws it. If several people run the channel together, how the money is split is your own agreement. Write it down before the channel earns anything, because disagreements about money are a common reason teams break up.
No. Monetization plays no part in TGDirectory listings. "Best Telegram Channels" ranks by real subscriber count and "Top rated" by readers' ratings, and paid Featured placements are labelled and never change rankings. Listing is free; you can submit your channel for review.
Ad revenue paid in TON is income in many countries, and converting TON to local currency can have separate tax effects. Keep records of each withdrawal: date, amount in TON, value in your currency on that date, and any later sale. Telegram income and taxes for creators gives a general overview. This is general information, not tax advice; check local rules or a professional.
When Telegram launched the programme, it set the requirement at public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers. Check your channel's monetization section for the current condition.
There is no fixed rate. Your share depends on what advertisers pay for impressions in your channel, which varies with audience location, language, topic and demand. Your monetization section shows actual earnings.
Rewards have been paid in TON and withdrawn through Fragment to a TON wallet. Telegram has also added Stars to many features, so check what your monetization section shows.
No. Telegram's system chooses ads based on advertisers' targeting. You cannot pick individual ads, though you can switch ads off if your channel reaches the boost level Telegram requires for that.
Eligible channels see the monetization section in their statistics. Follow any steps it shows, such as accepting terms. There is no separate application through third parties, and anyone offering to "apply for you" is not legitimate.
No. Telegram Ads appear in public channels. A private channel can earn in other ways, such as paid subscriptions in Stars. See paid Telegram channels explained.
Telegram's ad revenue sharing pays owners of eligible public channels a share of the revenue from the sponsored messages shown in their channels. At launch, that meant public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers and half of the ad revenue, paid in TON through Fragment. Your actual earnings depend on real views, your audience's location and language, your topic and advertiser demand, so the monetization section of your statistics is the only reliable figure. Prepare the owner account with two-step verification and a TON wallet you control, keep records for taxes, and grow real readership rather than numbers.
