How to Buy Ads in Telegram Channels Without Being Scammed

GrowthHow to Buy Ads in Telegram Channels Without Being Scammed

To buy ads in Telegram channels safely, check that the channel has a real, active audience, agree clear terms in writing, use a separate tracked link, and pay in a way that protects you. Start with a small test before spending more. Most bad deals come from trusting subscriber counts and paying in full up front to a stranger.

This guide covers how to find channels, how to spot fake audiences and scams, and how to measure results.

How channel ads work

Buying a post in a Telegram channel is a direct deal between you and the channel's owner or admin. You agree a price and a format, and they publish your ad to their subscribers.

This is different from Telegram Ads, Telegram's own ad platform, where you set up campaigns yourself. See the Telegram Ads platform explained if that is what you are looking for.

Typical ad formats include:

  • A dedicated post about your product or channel.
  • A mention inside a regular post.
  • A pinned post for a set time.
  • A forward of one of your posts with a short recommendation.

There is no standard price list. Prices are set by each channel. Our guide to Telegram ad post pricing explains what affects them.

Step 1: Define what you want to achieve

Know your goal before you contact anyone.

  • New subscribers for your own channel.
  • Visits or sign-ups for a website or app.
  • Sales of a product.

Your goal decides what you measure later. It also helps you choose channels whose readers would actually act on your ad.

Step 2: Find relevant channels

Look for channels whose readers match your audience, not just the biggest ones you can find.

  • Browse by topic in the TGDirectory categories.
  • Check the best Telegram channels by subscribers and top-rated channels in your niche.
  • Read our guide on how to find Telegram channels.

Make a shortlist and check each one before contacting the owner.

Step 3: Check the audience is real

Subscriber counts can be inflated cheaply with fake accounts. Views and engagement tell you more.

  1. Compare views to subscribers. A channel with a large subscriber count but very few views per post has many inactive or fake subscribers.
  2. Look at several posts, not one. Real views vary from post to post. Suspiciously identical view counts on every post can be a sign of bought views.
  3. Read the reactions and comments. Are they relevant, varied and from real-looking accounts?
  4. Check the history. A channel that suddenly changed name, topic or language may have been bought and repurposed.
  5. Look at measured figures. On TGDirectory, channel pages show average and median views per post, engagement rate and posts per week, measured from public posts. A large gap between average and median views can mean a few posts went viral, or that some views were boosted.

Our guide to Telegram channel engagement rate explains how to read these numbers.

Step 4: Make sure you are dealing with the real owner

Scammers often pose as channel admins. They copy a channel's name and photo, or claim to manage ads for it.

  • Find the contact in the channel itself. The description or a pinned post usually names who handles ads.
  • Be wary of anyone who contacts you first offering ads in a big channel.
  • Check the username carefully. Impostors use names that differ by one letter or an extra underscore.
  • Ask for proof of admin access, such as a test post or a screenshot of the channel's statistics with today's date, taken while you watch or shared live.

If a channel owner has claimed their TGDirectory listing, the page shows an "Owner verified" badge. That means someone proved they control the channel by adding our bot as an admin. It does not mean we endorse the content or the ad deal.

Step 5: Agree terms in writing

A short written agreement in chat prevents most disputes. Cover:

  1. Format. Dedicated post, mention, pin or forward.
  2. Date and time of publication, including time zone.
  3. How long the post stays up before it can be deleted.
  4. Whether it is pinned, and for how long.
  5. Who writes the text and whether you approve the final version.
  6. Price and payment method.
  7. Whether the ad is labelled as an advertisement. In many places, ads must be clearly marked.
  8. What happens if the post is not published as agreed.

Ask for the channel's own statistics for recent posts if you need more detail. A serious seller will usually share a media kit or similar information.

Step 6: Pay safely

Payment is where most ad scams happen.

  • Start small. Test one post before buying a package.
  • Avoid paying the full amount up front to someone you have never worked with, if you can. Splitting payment before and after publication reduces risk.
  • Never share passwords, login codes or wallet seed phrases. No real ad deal needs them. Read never share your Telegram login code.
  • Be careful with crypto payments. They are usually hard to reverse. Double-check the address with the real owner.
  • Keep records of the chat, the agreement and the payment.

For more warning signs, see how to spot Telegram scams and crypto scams on Telegram.

Step 7: Track and measure the results

Without tracking, you cannot tell which ads worked.

  • Use a unique invite link for each channel you advertise in, if you are promoting a Telegram channel. Name it after the channel. See the invite links guide.
  • Use unique links or codes for websites and shops, so you can see where visitors came from.
  • Record the views on the ad post after a day or two.
  • Watch what happens next. Do the new subscribers read your posts, or leave within days?

Compare results across channels and spend more only where the readers stayed.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing channels by subscriber count alone.
  • Paying a stranger in full before anything is published.
  • Not checking who you are talking to, and paying an impostor.
  • No written terms, so the post is deleted after an hour with nothing you can point to.
  • No tracking link, so you cannot tell if the ad worked.
  • Buying a big package after one good result, before testing whether it repeats.
  • Advertising something the audience does not care about.

FAQ

How do I know if a channel's views are fake?

Look for very low views compared with subscribers, view counts that are suspiciously similar on every post, and generic or repetitive reactions. No single sign proves it, but several together are a strong warning.

Should I pay before or after the post is published?

With a new partner, try to split payment or pay after publication. With a channel you have worked with before, paying up front may be reasonable. Always keep records.

Is it safe to pay for ads in crypto?

Crypto payments are usually hard or impossible to reverse, so mistakes and scams are costly. Only pay in crypto to someone you have verified, and double-check the address. This is not financial advice.

What should the ad post look like?

Short, clear and relevant to the channel's readers, with one link. Posts that read like a genuine recommendation tend to work better than loud sales copy.

Can I buy ads on TGDirectory?

TGDirectory offers a paid Featured placement: a clearly labelled spot in the homepage featured rotation. It never changes rankings. It can be bought when you submit a channel, and it is refunded if the channel is not published.

Summary

Buy Telegram channel ads like a careful customer. Choose channels by audience fit, check that views and engagement look real, and confirm you are talking to the real owner. Put the terms in writing, start with a small test, avoid paying strangers everything up front, and never share login codes. Use a unique link for each ad, and spend more only where the new readers stay.
