How to Claim Your Channel and Get the Owner Verified Badge

To claim your channel on TGDirectory, open its listing, use the "Is this your channel?" panel, and add our bot as an admin of the channel. The site then checks with Telegram that the bot really is an admin. If it is, the claim succeeds and the listing shows an Owner verified badge.

This guide covers the steps, what the badge means, what it does not mean, and how to keep your channel safe while you do it.

What claiming proves

A claim answers one question: does this person control the channel? It is proved the only way that cannot be faked from outside. Only someone who can manage the channel's admins can add our bot as one, and the site confirms it directly with Telegram.

Nothing else is used as proof. A screenshot, a message or a promise would be easy to fake. An admin check with Telegram is not.

What the Owner verified badge means

After a successful claim, the listing shows an Owner verified badge. It tells readers that someone proved they control the channel.

It is important to be clear about its limits:

  • It is not Telegram's own verification. Telegram has its own verification for some accounts and channels, handled by Telegram. Our badge is separate. If that is what you are after, read how to get verified on Telegram.
  • It is not an endorsement. The badge says nothing about the quality or safety of the channel's content.
  • It does not change the statistics. Figures on the page are read from the public posts Telegram shows on the channel's web preview. Claiming a listing does not let you edit them.
  • It does not change rankings. "Best Telegram Channels" ranks by real subscriber count, and "Top rated" ranks by reader ratings.

Before you start

Check these points first. They save time.

  1. Make sure the channel is listed. If it is not on TGDirectory yet, submit your channel first. Listing is free, and every submission is reviewed by a person before it appears.
  2. Make sure you can add admins. In Telegram, the channel's owner can add admins, and so can an admin who has been given that right. If you cannot add admins, ask whoever can.
  3. Have Telegram open on a device where you manage the channel. You will need it to add the bot.

How to claim your channel, step by step

  1. Open your channel's page on TGDirectory. Search for it or browse to it.
  2. Find the "Is this your channel?" panel on the page.
  3. Follow the instructions in the panel. They tell you which bot to add. Always take the bot's name from the panel itself.
  4. Add the bot as an admin of your channel in Telegram. You do this from the channel's admin settings. If you have not added an admin before, see how to add admins to a Telegram channel.
  5. Return to the panel and let the site check. The site asks Telegram whether the bot is an admin of that channel.
  6. Look for the Owner verified badge. If the check succeeds, the claim is complete and the badge appears on the listing.

Telegram lets you choose which rights an admin has. Give the bot only what the panel's instructions ask for. Exact menu names in Telegram can change between app versions, so if a button looks different, look in the channel's settings for the admin section.

Keeping your channel safe

Claiming works by adding a bot as an admin. It never needs your login code, your password or your two-step verification password. Nobody should ever ask you for those.

  • Never share a login code. If anyone asks for one, in our name or any other, it is a scam. Read why you should never share your Telegram login code.
  • Only add the bot named on the panel. Do not add a bot because a stranger told you to in a message.
  • Be wary of "verification agents". Someone offering to claim or verify your listing for you in a private message is not part of this process.

If the claim does not succeed

The check depends on Telegram confirming that our bot is an admin of the channel. If it does not succeed, go through the basics:

  1. Confirm you added the bot to the right channel. It is easy to pick the wrong one if you run several.
  2. Confirm the bot was added as an admin, not just as a subscriber.
  3. Re-read the panel's instructions and check you added the exact bot it names.
  4. Try the check again from the panel.

If you still cannot add the bot, the person who controls the channel's admins may need to do it.

After you have claimed it

With the badge in place, readers can see that the channel's owner has proved control. Your page still shows the same measured figures as before: subscribers, average and median views per post, engagement rate, posts per week, when the channel last posted, and a growth chart once enough daily points exist. Every figure is measured or not shown.

You may also want a Featured placement. It is a paid, clearly labelled spot in the homepage featured rotation, and it never changes rankings.

To see how readers will view your listing, read how to read a TGDirectory channel page.

Common mistakes

  • Adding the bot as a subscriber instead of an admin. The check needs it to be an admin.
  • Adding the wrong bot. Always use the bot named in the claim panel.
  • Adding the bot to the wrong channel. Double-check before you confirm.
  • Sharing a login code to "speed things up". Claiming never needs one. Anyone asking is running a scam.
  • Calling the badge Telegram verification. It is TGDirectory's Owner verified badge, which is separate.
  • Expecting the badge to boost rankings. Rankings use real subscriber counts and reader ratings, not badges.

FAQ

Is the Owner verified badge the same as Telegram's verification?

No. It shows that someone proved control of the channel on TGDirectory. Telegram's own verification is separate and handled by Telegram.

Does the badge mean TGDirectory recommends my channel?

No. It is not an endorsement of the channel's content. It only shows that ownership was proved.

Do I need to give anyone my login code to claim a channel?

Never. The claim works by adding our bot as an admin. Anyone asking for a code or password is attempting a scam.

My channel is not listed yet. Can I still claim it?

Submit it first through the submit page. Listing is free, and once the listing exists you can claim it from its page.

Can I change my channel's statistics after claiming it?

No. The figures are read from the public posts Telegram shows on the channel's web preview. Nobody can type them in.

Summary

Claiming a TGDirectory listing proves you control the channel. You open the listing, use the "Is this your channel?" panel, add the bot it names as an admin of your channel, and the site checks with Telegram. A successful claim adds the Owner verified badge. It is not Telegram's verification, not an endorsement, and it does not change statistics or rankings. Never share a login code with anyone during the process.
