How to Read a TGDirectory Channel Page

A walk through every part of a TGDirectory channel page: the measured statistics, the growth chart, reader ratings, the Owner verified badge and the report option.

About TGDirectoryHow to Read a TGDirectory Channel Page

A TGDirectory channel page combines three kinds of information: figures measured from Telegram's public web preview, ratings from readers, and a badge that shows whether the owner has proved control. Read each for what it is, and the page tells you a lot before you join. Read them as one blended score, and it can mislead you.

This guide walks through the page part by part, then gives a short routine for deciding whether a channel is worth your time.

The three kinds of information on a page

Before the details, it helps to know where each part comes from:

  • Measured figures come from the public posts Telegram shows on the channel's web preview. They include subscribers, views, engagement rate, posting pace, the last post date and the growth chart.
  • Ratings come from TGDirectory readers. Each account can rate a listing once.
  • The Owner verified badge comes from the claim process, where an owner proves control of the channel.

None of these is an endorsement of the channel's content. Every listing was reviewed by a person before it appeared, but that review is about whether a channel can be listed, not a promise about every post.

The measured statistics

Subscribers

The subscriber count Telegram shows publicly. It tells you how big the audience is. It does not tell you how many of those people actually read.

Average and median views per post

Both are taken from the view counts under recent public posts. The average is the mean. The median is the middle value when the posts are lined up from fewest to most views.

When the two are close, posts perform fairly evenly. When the average is much higher, a few posts probably did far better than the rest. The median is often the better guide to what a normal post gets.

Engagement rate

This is average views divided by subscribers. It hints at how much of the audience reads a typical post.

Example only: 500 average views on a channel with 5,000 subscribers gives 500 ÷ 5,000, or 10%. These numbers are invented to show the sum, not to suggest what is good. More context is in what Telegram channel engagement rate means.

Posts per week

How often the channel posts, measured from its public posts. Useful if you want a busy feed or a quiet one.

When it last posted

The date of the newest public post we can see. This is one of the most useful signals on the page. A big channel that has gone quiet is still quiet.

The growth chart

The chart is drawn from one real subscriber count per day, recorded since TGDirectory started watching the channel. It only appears once enough real daily points exist. It does not cover the time before we started watching, so a short chart means a short observation period, not a young channel.

For the full detail on how each figure is read, see how TGDirectory measures channel statistics.

When a figure is missing

Every figure is measured or not shown. A blank space means we could not measure it, not that the value is zero. For example, if the public preview shows no view counts, there is no average, no median and no engagement rate. If the channel was added recently, the growth chart may not be there yet.

Do not read a missing number as a bad sign or a good one. It is simply unknown.

Ratings

Readers can rate a listing, one rating per account. The average rating is shown only once there are at least three ratings. Below that, the page does not show an average, because one or two opinions are too few to summarise.

Keep in mind:

  • Ratings are opinions, not measurements.
  • A rating says nothing about how many people read the channel.
  • A high rating from a few readers and a high rating from many readers are different things, so look at how many ratings there are.

If you want to compare channels by rating, the Top rated list ranks listings by their ratings.

The Owner verified badge

Some pages show an Owner verified badge. It means someone proved they control the channel through TGDirectory's claim process. They added our bot as an admin of the channel, and the site checked this with Telegram.

Two things it does not mean:

  • It is not Telegram's own verification. That is a separate thing handled by Telegram.
  • It is not an endorsement of the channel's content.

If you run the channel yourself, the page has an "Is this your channel?" panel. The steps are in how to claim your channel and get the Owner verified badge.

Reporting a listing

If something on a channel looks wrong, unsafe or like a scam, you can report the listing to moderators from its page. Illegal, pornographic and scam channels are not accepted on TGDirectory, so a report is the right step if you think one has slipped through.

To learn the warning signs, read how to spot Telegram scams.

A quick routine for judging a channel

  1. Check the last post date. If it is old, the channel may be inactive.
  2. Look at subscribers and median views together. This shows audience size and how many people a normal post reaches.
  3. Compare average and median views. A large gap points to a few unusually popular posts.
  4. Check posts per week. Make sure the pace suits you.
  5. Look at the growth chart if there is one. Remember it only covers the period we have watched.
  6. Read the rating and how many ratings there are. Treat it as reader opinion, not proof of quality.
  7. Note whether the owner is verified. It tells you who controls the channel, not whether the content is good.
  8. Open the channel in Telegram and read some posts. Nothing replaces seeing the content yourself.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a blank figure as zero. Missing means not measured.
  • Reading the growth chart as the channel's whole history. It starts when we began watching.
  • Mixing up ratings and statistics. Ratings are opinions from readers. Statistics are read from Telegram.
  • Confusing Owner verified with Telegram verification. They are separate, and neither endorses content.
  • Judging by subscribers alone. A large count with low views or no recent posts tells a different story.
  • Ignoring how many ratings there are. Three ratings and many ratings carry very different weight.

FAQ

Why is there no average rating on a channel page?

An average appears only once a listing has at least three ratings. Until then, there are too few to summarise.

Does the Owner verified badge mean the channel is safe?

No. It means someone proved they control the channel. It is not Telegram's verification and not an endorsement of the content.

Why does the growth chart start recently for an old channel?

The chart only uses daily subscriber counts recorded since TGDirectory started watching the channel. Earlier history is not drawn.

Can I rate a channel more than once?

No. Each account can give one rating per listing.

What should I do if a listing looks like a scam?

Report it to moderators from the listing's page. Scam channels are not accepted on TGDirectory.

Summary

A TGDirectory channel page brings together measured statistics, reader ratings and, where an owner has claimed it, the Owner verified badge. Statistics come from Telegram's public web preview and are measured or not shown. Ratings are reader opinions, averaged only from three ratings up. The badge proves control, not quality. Use them together, check the last post date first, and open the channel itself before you decide.
