How to Save and Forward Telegram Posts (With or Without the Source)

Save Telegram posts to Saved Messages, forward them with or without the original source, share post links, and know when forwarding is blocked.

Getting StartedHow to Save and Forward Telegram Posts (With or Without the Source)

To forward a Telegram post, press and hold it (or right-click on desktop), tap Forward, and choose a chat. To save it for yourself, forward it to Saved Messages. Telegram also lets you hide the original sender's name before you send, so the post arrives without the "Forwarded from" line.

This guide explains each option step by step, when to keep the source and when it is fine to hide it, and why some channels do not let you forward at all.

The three ways to share a post

  • Forward the post to a chat. By default it shows "Forwarded from" and the source channel or person.
  • Forward without the source. The post arrives as if you sent it yourself, without the forwarding label.
  • Share a link to the post. This works for posts in public channels and some groups.

To keep something for later, forward it to Saved Messages, your private cloud chat with yourself.

How to forward a post

On a phone

  1. Open the channel or chat.
  2. Press and hold the post.
  3. Tap Forward. You can tap more posts to select several at once.
  4. Choose one or more chats.
  5. Tap send.

On many apps there is also a forward arrow next to channel posts. Tapping it opens the same chat picker.

On desktop

  1. Right-click the post.
  2. Choose Forward.
  3. Pick a chat and send.

You can usually add a comment of your own before sending. It goes as a separate message alongside the forwarded post.

How to forward without the source

Telegram gives you options to hide the sender's name, and often the caption too. The exact wording varies by version.

  1. Start forwarding as above and choose the chat.
  2. Before sending, look for the forward options. On phones, this is often reached by tapping the forwarded message preview above the text field. On desktop, it may be a right-click on the send button or a menu in the preview.
  3. Choose the option to hide the sender's name.
  4. Optionally choose to hide captions on media.
  5. Send.

The post now arrives without the "Forwarded from" line. Recipients see it as a message from you.

Copying the text instead

You can also select a post's text, copy it, and paste it into a new message. This drops the source too. It does not copy formatting or media perfectly, so forwarding without the source is usually cleaner.

When to keep the source, and when to hide it

Hiding the source is useful, but it comes with responsibility.

Keep the source when

  • You share someone else's news, analysis, photo or creative work.
  • You want people to be able to check where something came from.
  • You are recommending a channel. The source line lets people tap through and join.

Hiding the source is reasonable when

  • You forward your own post from one of your channels to another.
  • You share practical info, like an address or a schedule, with family or friends.
  • The source line would add confusion and nothing of value.

Reposting other channels' content as your own is a common way to lose trust and get reported. If you run a channel, credit other creators and add your own view. For honest growth ideas, read how to promote a Telegram channel.

How to save posts for later

Saved Messages

Saved Messages is a private chat that only you can see. It syncs across your devices.

  1. Press and hold the post.
  2. Tap Forward.
  3. Choose Saved Messages.

On many apps you can also press and hold the forward arrow next to a channel post for a quick save option. Saved Messages keeps the source link, so you can tap back to the original post later.

Keeping Saved Messages tidy

  • Add a short note after each saved post saying why you saved it.
  • Use hashtags in your notes, like #recipe or #read-later, then search them.
  • Clear out old items now and then.

Downloading media

You can save photos, videos and files to your device. Open the media and use the save or download option. Respect copyright: saving something for personal use is different from republishing it.

How to share a link to a post

For public channels, each post has its own link in the form t.me/channelname/123.

  1. Press and hold the post.
  2. Tap Copy link or Share.
  3. Paste the link anywhere: in another app, an email or a chat.

Anyone with the link can open the post, even without joining the channel. Posts in private channels have links too, but only members can open them.

Post links are the best way to share Telegram content outside Telegram. They also send people back to the original channel, which creators appreciate.

Why you sometimes cannot forward or save

Some channels and groups turn on a setting that restricts saving content. When it is on:

  • The forward button is missing or disabled.
  • You cannot save media or copy text in the usual way.
  • Screenshots may be blocked on some devices.

This is the owner's choice, usually to protect paid or original content. Respect it. Trying to get around it may break the channel's rules or the creator's rights.

Secret chats work differently again. Messages from secret chats cannot be forwarded. See Telegram secret chats explained.

For channel owners

If you want to protect your content, look in your channel's settings for the option that restricts saving content. Keep in mind it also stops readers from sharing your posts, which can slow your growth. Many owners leave sharing on for free channels and restrict only paid ones. Read paid Telegram channels explained for more.

Common mistakes

  • Passing off others' work as yours. Hide the source only when it is fair to do so.
  • Forwarding scams. Do not forward "investment" offers or giveaways you have not checked. See how to spot Telegram scams.
  • Forwarding to the wrong chat. Double-check the chat name before tapping send.
  • Forgetting that forwards show your name. In groups, everyone can see who forwarded a post.
  • Forwarding private information. A post from a private chat can be forwarded on by whoever receives it.

FAQ

Does the channel owner know when I forward a post?

They do not get a notice naming you. Channel statistics may show how often posts are shared or forwarded, but not usually by whom. Check your own channel's statistics to see what is shown.

Can I forward a post without "Forwarded from"?

Yes. Use the forward options before sending and choose to hide the sender's name.

Why is the forward button missing?

The channel or group has restricted saving content, or the message is in a secret chat. In both cases forwarding is blocked on purpose.

Is Saved Messages private?

Yes. Only you can see it. It is a cloud chat, so it syncs to all your logged-in devices.

Can I forward a post from a private channel to someone who is not a member?

If saving content is allowed, you can forward the post itself. A link to the post will only open for members.

Summary

Forward a post by pressing and holding it and tapping Forward. Use the forward options to hide the sender's name when that is fair, and keep the source when you share other people's work. Save posts to Saved Messages, share public posts by link, and respect channels that restrict saving. Done well, forwarding helps good channels spread and keeps their creators credited.
