TGDirectory shows a figure only if it was measured. Here is what that rule covers, why it matters to readers and owners, and what it costs in blank spaces.
TGDirectory shows a number only if it was measured. A figure that cannot be read is left out, because a made-up number looks exactly like a real one to the person reading it. That is the whole reason it would be dishonest.
This guide explains what the rule covers, why we hold to it, and what it means for the pages you see.
Every figure on a channel page is measured or not shown. Nothing is estimated, seeded or back-filled.
The measured figures are subscribers, average and median views per post, engagement rate, posts per week, when the channel last posted, and a growth chart. They are read from the public posts Telegram shows on the channel's web preview. The details are in how TGDirectory measures channel statistics.
It helps to name the shortcuts we avoid. Each one can make a page look more complete. Each one would put a number in front of you that nobody actually observed.
An estimate fills a gap with a guess. If a channel's views cannot be read, an estimate would show some "likely" figure anyway. We show nothing instead.
A seeded value is a starting number put in so a page does not look empty. A new listing with zero data would get a plausible-looking figure. We do not do this.
Back-filling draws a growth curve for a period nobody watched. It is tempting, because a smooth line over many months looks informative. Our growth chart uses one real subscriber count per day, recorded since we started watching the channel, and nothing before that.
A placeholder shows a "typical" value until a real one arrives. A floor shows "at least" some number whatever the real count is. Both are numbers that describe nothing. We leave the space empty instead.
When you look at a figure, you cannot tell whether someone measured it or typed it in. A real number and an invented one look the same on screen. The only protection is a source that never invents them.
Readers choose which channels to join. Owners compare themselves with others. People planning to advertise in a channel look at its reach. A guessed number can push any of these decisions the wrong way. If you are weighing an ad, see how to buy ads in Telegram channels for what else to check.
An empty space tells you something true: this could not be measured. A guessed figure hides that fact. We would rather you know what is unknown.
Holding to "measured or not shown" means some pages look thinner. That is a real trade-off.
Each of these is the honest version of a gap. Filling them would make pages prettier and less trustworthy.
"Best Telegram Channels" is ranked by real subscriber count, and nothing else. You can see it on the best Telegram channels ranking. "Top rated" is ranked by reader ratings.
A Featured placement is a paid spot in the homepage featured rotation. It is clearly labelled as such. It never changes rankings. Paying for visibility on the homepage does not buy a higher position in a ranked list.
The badge is not a number, but the same thinking applies. It is shown only after an owner proves control by adding our bot as an admin of the channel, and the site checks with Telegram. It is not Telegram's own verification and not an endorsement of content.
Being measured is not the same as being perfect. It is worth being clear about the limits:
Because those figures could not be measured. We leave them empty rather than show a guess.
No. The subscriber count is the one Telegram shows on the public preview. If it cannot be read, it is not shown.
It uses only daily subscriber counts recorded since we started watching the channel. Earlier history was never observed, so it is not drawn.

Yes, in one sense. We show what Telegram displays. If a channel bought subscribers, the count includes them. Compare subscribers with views to spot that.
TGDirectory shows a figure only if it was measured from the public posts Telegram shows on a channel's web preview. No estimates, seeds, placeholders or back-filled history. That leaves some gaps, such as missing view figures, late growth charts and no average below three ratings. We accept those gaps because a blank is honest and an invented number is not. If you run a channel and want it measured this way, you can submit your channel for free.
Ownership confirmed through our claim process — not an endorsement of their content.
